3 hour glucose test...

This was the greatest experience I've ever had - no seriously, you should try it IF YOU HAVE A DEATH WISH!

A few weeks ago my doctors office called and said I had failed my regular glucose test by ONE POINT and that I now had to report to the hospital and take the 3 hour test. Does Mother Nature know me but at all??? I hate needles with a passion, I think I would rather be bitten by a snake. So sitting in a small hospital room for 4 hours waiting to get my blood drawn 6 or 7 times was a real treat!

I'm still waiting to get the results back but if Mother Nature really hates me, I'll fail that one too and not get to eat sugar for the rest of my pregnacy.

bad at science...

I never was very good at science or math. It shouldn't be hard to do better than I did on this one!

idol update...

Ok, so I've totally changed my mind about the idol's that I like. My top 3 used to be David Archuletta, Brooke White and Michael Johns. Well, for whatever reason, David A. and Michael bug me and I'm now a big fan of Jason Castro, David Cook and Brooke White. Those two are AMAZING! Don't get me wrong David A. and Michael can sing but I just feel some sort of insencerity when I see them.

I think David Cook is so talented, I would go out and by his album if he had one. I have already downloaded his 'Hello' performance. And I thought he did an amazing job with Billie Jean last night!

google streets...

Is this really cool or a complete invasion or your privacy? I happen to think it's really cool but I don't know how I'd feel if there were a picture of me standing outside or my car in the driveway with the licence plate information as plain as day. Give it a try and see what you think:

1. Go to http://maps.google.com/help/maps/streetview/index_.html
2. Click on 'go to street view'
3. Type any address you want in the search area
4. When the map appears, if there is a picture that has a caption that says 'street view' click on that and find the house.
5. What do you think - total invasion or really cool?

santa monica...

Last week Preston had to go to California for work so Annie and I tagged along. The office in Santa Monica is a half block from the beach and they put us up at a hotel right around the corner from the office - so right across from the beach and the Santa Monica Pier. We had a great time! During the day while Preston was working Annie and I would go play at the beach and on the pier and then Preston would meet us for lunch. Then at night when he'd get back, we would walk around Santa Monica. We were there for 2 1/2 days and it was GREAT!

This is the Georgian Hotel that we stayed at, it is one of the oldest and nicest hotels in Santa Monica...

In the mornings Annie and I would walk a couple of blocks to the public promenade and get breakfast at McDonalds...
Then we'd go back to the beach and spend a few hours in the sand. It was still a little too cold for a bathing suit and Annie didn't care about actually getting in the Ocean. She just wanted to get her feet wet and play in the sand...

Then we'd walk back to the promedade and go shopping. By shopping I mean walking into every store that MIGHT have shoes for Annie to try on and we'd spend at least a half an hour in every store so she could try on EVERY shoe. I think I'm in BIG trouble...

At night we'd go back to the pier and the promedade with Preston then eat dinner and just hang out. The beach is great, they have all sorts of things to do and all kinds of equiptment to play on. Both Preston and Annie had a great time playing...

The Santa Monica Pier is one of the oldest and had the very first amusement attractions. The carousel was built in 1917 and was really amazing. Annie had a GREAT time riding the carousel...

There were tons of rides and games and what does Annie choose to ride, the donkey for a quarter...Trying on shoes AGAIN, what a big surprise! These were her favorites to try on because they were jellies and the had glitter and would light up when you walked. I think she tried these on 5 or 6 different times...

Since we were already in California and we don't go there enough already, we decided to go to Disneyland AGAIN! We spent 3 days there and once again, Annie had a great time (and so did Preston)...

If you have to travel with a child, this is the ONLY way I recommend that you do it...

reading already...

This last Friday we were in Santa Monica, California because Preston had to work and so Annie and I decided to tag along. While we were enjoying a little R&R at the hotel, Annie was watching a DVD, or so I thought. I hear her over on her bed sounding out letters. I wasn't really thinking anything of it until she pointed to the word "Phillips" on the DVD player and said "mom, does this say 'Pill-ups'.

I was SHOCKED to say the least, she's never done anything like that before.

So for the rest of the day I tried to get her to "read" other words. She would sound out every letter perfectly and then when I would ask her what it said she would say she didn't know. The most classic was when we were waiting in line at McDonalds for breakfast, she was sounding out the letters to the word 'welcome' and I said, "Annie what does that say" and with all the excitement a kid could muster she yelled out "CHAIR"!

idolizer...

Yes, it's true. I've been sucked into yet ANOTHER season of American Idol. I've even managed to half suck in Preston. My favorite episodes are usually the auditions and then I begin to lose interest and rarely see it through to the end. I don't anticipate that happening this year! Maybe it's because I have less of a life than usual or maybe it's just that much better - who knows? Whatever the reason, I'm religious watcher. My top 3 picks are David Archuletta, Jason Castro and Brooke White. I think Jason needs to cut his hair but other than that, I'm a major fan!

I've never shed so many tears of joy as I did when Danny Noriega got voted off - that couldn't have happened too soon! Also, who is voting for Amanda Overmeyer? Does anyone actually like that kind of music or that "look"?

Who else is an idolizer?

After 4+ months of my website being offline (don't get me started on that, it was a HUGE mess), it is FINALLY back up and running! Surprisingly I actually missed maintaining it and making cards. I guess I really do enjoy what I do!

inept mother of the year...

No, I'm not talking about me, although I have probably qualified for the award more than once, but hopefully not to the degree of this mother.

Today Preston and I took Annie to the Legacy Center Swimming Pool. It is just absolutely adorable and has all sorts of fun things for kids. Among the fun things is this huge water slide. At the end of the slide it dumps you out into a pool about 4-5 feet deep. There is no specific age requirement for the slide that I'm aware of, I guess they're just trusting people to use good sense.

Preston was going to take Annie with him down the big slide so I was waiting at the bottom for them to come out. While I was waiting I see this little girl who was MAYBE 4 come shooting out of the water slide and not come back up above the water. No life jacket - nothing. So finally the lifeguard jumps in and pulls the little girl out. The little girl must have sat there with the lifeguard for nearly 5 minutes before her mom came over to "check" on her child. The mom got a good talking to from the lifeguards and they did some paperwork and sent her on her merry way.

About 10 minutes later we hear whistles and see another lifeguard jump into the pool and pull anther little girl out - she was maybe 2. A few minutes pass and this same mother of the year comes over to "check" on this child. She starts getting mad at the child for not swimming in the right place, etc. Again, got a good talking to from the lifeguard (apparently the first lecture didn't set in) and again, paperwork was filled out.

What kind of mother takes her 2 little kids to a public pool and has to have both of them recovered by a lifeguard within 10 minutes???

sleeping beauty...

If you're Annie, most days at our house are spent in either a Belle dress or a Cinderella dress. Pretty much, right after the moment she wakes up she rips off her pajamas and it's into a dress and it doesn't come off again until it's time for bed. I don't know where she got this "girly" side. I'm not particularly girly. I'd rather play baseball than barbies, it's always been that way. My daughter is the polar opposite. She wants any poofy dress that twirls, her idea of a good time is trying on high heeled shoes at Dillards, she'd love to wear makeup and have tea parties all day long. Anything that has a princess on it, near it or in it is a hit. She's my very own sleeping beauty - hey, if the shoe fits, wear it!
